Her family home is next door to her school sweetheart, Jason’s home where he lives with his invalid mother, who happens to be one of Cara’s best friends.
Car professor suggests she take the summer off and return to redo her exam before she takes the job in Chicago.
Jason knows he blew it when he turned away from Cara and wants to make it up to her. He has never told her the real reason why he was angry and broke up while at her sister’s wedding.
While home, Cara takes Jason’s mother to the nursing home where her friend is. She decides it would be a good idea to take some of the residents out for an evening of fun. Jason helps her with the outing. She wonders if starting a new kind of home for the elderly would’ve been a good idea for her final exam. But she knows she isn’t a nurse and wonders who could help her with the idea.
Her professor thinks it’s a good idea as does Jason. But she has to continue to work to pay off her college tuition. Jason has gone to cooking school so he can be home to care for his mom after leaving his lucrative baseball career.
The story is light hearted with great characters. It makes you want to cheer for all the folks in the story and hope that Jason and Cara will get back together and tackle their problems. I found the book interesting, and liked the idea that in spite of the problems, the characters don’t drag you down with heavy emotions. They are all very likable.

Cara returns to Lobster Cove in the hopes of having some fun and relaxing before she has to redo her last exam for her MBA. She is happy to be able to see her best friend, Francie who happens to be her ex-boyfriend Jason’s mom. So of course they will see each other. You can tell from the start that they are both still in love with each other but having had already 2 strikes against them they are very leery to see if the title is true – Third Strikes a Charm.
When Cara discovers her true passion is helping people in a home for elderly people she decides to change her presentation for her final exam. She organizes a group outing for the home in Lobster Cove and everyone that goes has an enjoyable time. She wants to give them some semblance of a real life.
Jason wants to start dating Cara again but with her around to see his mom he doesn’t know how to start. Cara’s mom suggests she make herself scarce so Jason can court her.
He gets up the nerve to ask her out on a date and it goes well.
Unfortunately time is against them, because Cara is soon called by her professor to retake her exam sooner so she can go to work in Chicago ahead of schedule. She is disappointed to have to leave so soon. Jason thought he had all summer to date her and work on their relationship.
Cara presents her idea of the new and improved home for elderly people and her professor says it is great. She passes the last exam with flying colors. She wants to make it a reality. She has no money though. Jason has become a great cook and wants to help her out.
They put their heads together and try to see if they could do this together. Family and friends pitch in and it seems her dream is more than a dream. She will have a place for her aunt to be and also residents of Lobster Cove’s loved ones can move there and be taken care of.
This is another edition to the Lobster Cove series and I loved it just as much as the others I have read. Cara and Jason have loved each other all along but things kept getting in their way. When she returns home she realizes Jason hasn’t moved on and neither has she. Although they both have secrets they need to share with each other you know that they will have to come clean if their relationship is to work.
I highly recommend this book.
This is Cara's story she is one of Maya's sisters, and one of the twins. Cara screwed up on her MBA and the professer told her to go home and relax and rest and come back in September and redo her presentation. While home Cara has a new idea for her MBA because of Jason's Mom. Jason was her boyfriend but they had broken up.She has always been close to his Mom so when she get home she starts seeing more of her, and can't help seeing more of Jason too. Jason's Mom has MS and it is getting worse right now she is at home being taken care of by Jason. He was injured playing major league baseball and hasn't healed right, or so he says, because he acts and looks fine. He is very worried about his Mom and her care. Cara's idea centers around taking care of the elderly in an assisted living/ nursing home environment with special catering to the elderly's needs and wants, that would turn the nursing home industry on its ear. Treating them with dignity, love, respect, and making life as good as it can be for them. Giving them extra help with all kinds of treatments, field trips when they're able etc... This is also about Cara and Jason and their love story and how they gravitate back together.
I enjoyed revisiting Lobster Cove and immersing myself back in their little community going's on. To center a book around and so promently on the aged and alzheimers was unheard of in my exprience in reading, but it must have an importance in the authors life. The concept of the ideas in thes book are amazing and would truely improve the lives of many elderly in this country instead of just "putting them somewhere". We are all getting older whether we want to believe it or not! People are living longer and their care is something that is going to affect us all in the coming years, which makes this book current, and relevent to todays living. What a wonderful idea this would be if it could just be put into action instead of only as a storyline in a book! I was glad to see Cara and Jason get back together and Cara get backing for her plan from Maya and her husband. I read and reviewed this book as part of the Mommy's Naughty Playground Review team. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
